a thousand cuts :: Adam Cohen's blog: What Does Your Blog Say About You?

  • Vickie Pynchon · 1 year ago
The gender analyzer says: "We have strong indicators that http://negotiationlawblog.com is written by a man (98%) and strong indicators that http://ipadrblog.com is written by a man (97%)." Both written by me, obviously, a woman. In GenderAnalyzer's survey of its accuracy, 54 % or 1442 bloggers said it was accurate and 46% or 1205 bloggers says it wasn't. Maybe one's blog has to say "mom" and "pregnant" and "children" and "women" (a LOT) to be pegged as female. Maybe it's just random & does no actual "analysis" at all. I'm as suspicious of these things as I am of the morning horoscope.

    Adam,
Thanks for the review. Very interesting site. I'm going to try Typelyzer, I;m always interested in knowing what going on in my head ;)

I tend to agree with Vickie. Without a person actually reading the entire blog, analyzing topic, keywords, style, verbage, etc the accuracy is no better than throwing darts in the dark while you're drunk. You may hit the bullseye every now and again but it's really by chance. This is like a carnival stunt show. Fun to watch for a little bit then walk away and forget.

As for the Brain Activity, I'm afraid what my Analyzer would show. Wonder if 'Activity in Hibernation' is an option. hmmm

Ok......Gender Analyzer said my blog http://nmbaker.wordpress.com was written by a man (77%), Which is wrong. Typealyzer determined that I was a "INTJ - The Scientists" - long-range thinking and individualistic type, OK hum...I'm not really sure what to do with this information?

Vickie and David - I agree completely and these tools need to be taken with a grain of salt. The horoscope is a great analogy - if anything it caused me to think about what I am doing and how I'm writing, but not a lot of value add. Typealyzer was a little more "meat" and insight - but same thing, not sure it gave a reason to change - just some more input.

Natasha - not sure it means a whole lot, other than challenging thinking on how you write...I wouldn't read too much into it ;)

Im of the ISTJ - The Duty Fulfillers mode-not sure thats accurate. But it definitly shows im a thinker, but here's their quote:
"The responsible and hardworking type. They are especially attuned to the details of life and are careful about getting the facts right. Conservative by nature they are often reluctant to take any risks whatsoever. The Duty Fulfillers are happy to be let alone and to be able to work int heir own pace. They know what they have to do and how to do it. "

I don't know about that. I take risks, really I do.. but only after I analyze them...

Adam, very interesting and a good conversation starter. Gender Analyzer said my blog http://twittermaven.blogspot.com was written by a woman (52%), Which is wrong. Since it is so close to 50/50, maybe it means that my writing style could be tweaked to be stronger? Typealyzer classified me as ISTP, The Mechanics, The independent and problem-solving type. The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. About the only insight I can add is, after running Typealyzer on other blogs that I read, I was happy to be in the same group with David Armano and Alan Wolk. That's pretty good company to keep!

Yes analyzer did its job well. Every blog of yours has something new to tell people. I learned more about social networking media through your blog than actually using it.

I find this only holds true if people you know read blogs....most of the people I grew up with don't so there is no way to connect with them on that level...

Well there's a blow to my masculinity. I guess I'll have to do more posting about the rules of bloodsports and correct selection of oil filters.

"We guess http://whatmattlearnedtoday.blogspot.com is written by a woman (51%), however it's quite gender neutral."

Wow, LOL. Interesting content- thanks for sharing. So I went in and did Typealyzer and this is the result I got:
"ISTJ - The Duty Fulfillers: The responsible and hardworking type. They are especially attuned to the details of life and are careful about getting the facts right. Conservative by nature they are often reluctant to take any risks whatsoever. The Duty Fulfillers are happy to be let alone and to be able to work int heir own pace. They know what they have to do and how to do it. "

As for GenderAnalyzer this is the result I got from that site: "We guess http://www.greenfixes.blogspot.com is written by a woman (56%), however it's quite gender neutral."

I think it is fairly safe to say that these are fun sites to check out, however it is hard to judge a blog's content merely by using this tool. Sometimes you hit content "correctly" and professionally, other times it may come off completely as a different person depending on the mood the author is in that day.

Meh... Typealyzer gave me the *exact* same results as Mr. Cohen. Really makes me question just how much it looks @ the blog... Adam's much more the Oscar type while I tend to be more like Felix... But even cooler.
